Cochrane Toyota Gifts the Cochrane Public Library (CPL) a Toyota RAV4 Prime for 2024

Cochrane Public Library is on the move!

Thanks to the generous support of Cochrane Toyota, the Library will be extending its services beyond the walls of the facility to deliver more exceptional programs, services, and collections to the community.

CPL has been in its current building for almost 25 years, and it is increasingly apparent that Cochrane requires a larger facility to meet the needs of residents. While program attendance grew to 16,928 visits in 2023 – an increase of 81% over the previous year – the Library is still without a dedicated program space. Enter Cochrane Toyota to the rescue!

Toyota Canada’s “Cars for Good” campaign aids local Toyota dealerships in supporting community initiatives. Cochrane Toyota, in partnership with Toyota Canada, is providing the Cochrane Public Library with a 2024 RAV4 Prime SE - EV Electric/Hybrid to aid in transporting programing, materials, and books to residents.

“We are truly honoured to contribute to this innovative program by the Cochrane Public Library. Cochrane continues to grow rapidly and the CPL team’s passion to find unique ways to support our growing community is something we believe in supporting. We hope this vehicle from Cochrane Toyota will help kickstart the first year of their outreach in a dynamic way. We applaud the CPL team for their commitment of making literacy enjoyable and accessible for all and we thank them for letting us contribute to their efforts in a way that also aligns with our presiding mission, to always Make Things Better,” says General Manager of Cochrane Toyota, Ryan Baum.

The Library’s 2024-2026 Plan of Service is committed to meeting the needs of the community and increasing offsite programming, particularly for youth and seniors. Along with providing a creative temporary solution to the Library’s undersized facility, outreach programming is essential to help reduce social isolation. Library outreach ensures that families encountering barriers to accessing the Library can still receive vital services, collections, and programs, while also increasing community inclusiveness and connectivity.

However, a thriving Library is not possible without the support and vision of community champions. As noted by Library Board Chair, Rhonda Newman, "We extend our deepest gratitude to Cochrane Toyota for their invaluable partnership, which has allowed the Library to expand our literacy programs beyond the physical confines of our building and reach a wider community. Their generous contribution not only demonstrates their unwavering commitment to our community but also aligns perfectly with their mission to ‘Make Things Better’. Through this partnership, we are poised to create a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and families through transformative literacy initiatives."

The Library would like to invite the community to mark this achievement on Family Literacy Day, taking place on Saturday, January 20 , celebrating with the “Let’s have a family party!” 2024 theme. “We have a puppet show, fun crafts for the whole family, cake – come celebrate with us!” said Library Director, Monique Fiedler-Sills.
