Spring Gardening Series

Get your garden growing! Cochrane & District Horticultural Society and Cochrane Community Gardens Society are partnering to offer three informational sessions through the month of May:

May 9: Soil + Seeds = Supper
Gardening in this area comes with its own unique challenges.   Come learn some tips and tricks to deal with our weather and soil issues in order to maximize your vegetable and fruit yields.

May 23: Container Gardening with Self Watering Pots
Are you an under-waterer or an over-waterer? Self watering pots reduce water consumption and take the guess work out of when and how much to water, reducing the time and effort required for container garden maintenance. Growing your flowers and food crops in containers allows you to maximize what you can grow in a limited space and to deal with such weather challenges as frosty nights and hail risk. Come see for yourself!

May 30: Composting 101
The benefits of composting kitchen scraps and garden waste are immense.  Learn how to compost in your back yard and how to set up a vermiculture system where red wriggler worms will create a supply of “black gold”  for your garden.
