COMMUNITY OUTREACH & PROGRAM LIBRARIAN

The Cochrane Public Library is looking for a Community Outreach & Program Librarian to join its dynamic team. Cochrane is a burgeoning and picturesque town nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with a population of over 26,000. This is a unique opportunity to work with an amazing community while contributing to the growth and promotion of the Cochrane Public Library.

Job Description:
The Community Outreach & Program Librarian will have varying responsibilities related to the development and oversight of library programming, services, and collections as well as providing leadership to staff and performing other duties as required to support library operations. This role will involve reaching out to and building relationships with community organizations, schools, local government and aboriginal communities to develop programs and provide library services. The Community Outreach & Program Librarian will also take a lead role in the implementation and supervision of our volunteer services program as it relates to the Library’s Strategic Plan.

Education and Experience Required:

·         Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program in
          library and information studies or recognized equivalent (MLIS, MIS, or MLS)
·         Minimum 2 years of experience working in a public library
 
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Assisting with the professional management of all services the Library provides
·         Developing and supervising the planning, implementation, monitoring and
          evaluation of Library programs, services and collections
·         Providing leadership to Library staff including scheduling, supervision, coaching
          and skills development training
·         Researching and advising on latest developments in the delivery of library services,
          policy issues and customer concerns
 
Organizational Relationships:
·         Reporting directly to the Library Director on program development, innovation,
          and library services
·         Acting as an advocate and/or liaison with the Library community, local schools,
          community partners and local businesses
 
Advocacy and Collaboration:
·         Developing community partnerships and promoting the Library in the community
·         Actively participating in library associations and allied organizations
·         Staying informed about current library trends and literacy issues
·         Maintaining positive relationships and working collaboratively with Town
          departments, library organizations and community groups and organizations
 
Professional & Organizational Responsibilities:
·         Staying current with regard to library services, trends, changes and issues
·         Demonstrating vision, innovation, creativity, and being an advocate for change
          when such is in the best interests of meeting the Library’s mission
·         Representing the Library to the Community and presenting a positive and
          professional image of the organization
 
Abilities & Skills Required for Success:
·         Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and manage organizational change
          and growth
·         Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills to foster
          collaboration and partnerships with staff, patrons and community stakeholders
·         Adaptability in a dynamic and changing environment with a strong desire to learn
·         Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting as well as independently with
          minimal supervision
·         Self-motivated, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage
          multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing to ensure all related deadlines are met
·         Understanding of basic strategic and financial planning/budgeting as it relates
          to libraries
·         Experienced in performing research and report writing
·         Technological proficiency including in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and
          online resources
 
Additional Requirements:
·         Valid driver’s licence and vehicle; ability to satisfy insurance requirements
·         Fluency in both verbal and written English communication
·         Fluency in languages other than English an asset
·         Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check from the Police Service
 
Compensation & Hours:
·         This is a full-time position with 37.5 hours/week and will include day, evening and
           weekend shifts in order to accommodate meetings, Library events and programs,
           and community events 
·         Salary range of $56,000-$64,000/year
